Dr. Zach Sickmann - Assistant Professor, Department of Sustainable Earth System Sciences

Richard T. Buffler Postdoctoral Fellow: University of Texas Institute for Geophysics

Lecturer: Department of Geological Sciences, Jackson School of Geosciences, University of Texas at Austin

PhD: Geological Sciences, Stanford University

BS: Geosciences, Trinity University

I was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas and became interested in sedimentology after growing up spending summers fishing and kayaking around barrier islands on the Texas coast. After finishing my PhD in California, I came back to Texas to pursue my passion for Earth Science research and education and help grow the newly named Department of Sustainable Earth Systems Science at UT Dallas.

Anne Abayomi - PhD student

MSc. Engineering Geology

BSc. Geology

I am from Nigeria, I earned both my bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria. My research focuses on exploring the dynamics of the Texas coastal sediments and understanding the natural systems evolution. I am an anime fan and enjoy jigsaw puzzles.

BS: Geosciences, University of Texas at Dallas

About Me: I am from southern California but really spent my formative years in the Dallas Texas area. I enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, or playing a pickup game of basketball. I am sucker from climbing a good mountain and getting rewarded with a wonderful view. My research is based on core concepts like sedimentology, stratigraphy, and geo-/thermochronology to refine models of sediment dispersal patterns and erosional events of the Southern High Plains.

Hannah Bahrami - undergraduate student

I am a senior geoscience student at UT Dallas from San Antonio, Texas. I am interested in pursuing a research-based master's degree in geology in the near future. Some of my research interests include sustainable agriculture and soil science, glacial geomorphology, and lithium geology. Outside of my educational and career interests, I enjoy traveling, learning new languages, and gardening.

Ashika Deshpande - undergraduate student

I am pursuing my undergraduate degree in Geophysics at the University of Texas at Dallas. Currently, my primary focus revolves around my independent research project, supervised by Dr. Nadine Igonin, which centers on induced seismicity in Texas. I have conducted groundwater well research under the guidance of Dr. Zachary Sickmann to study the depositional history of the Texas coast. I am captivated by the interdisciplinary nature of geosciences and its vast implications in the real world. I am excited to continue studying seismology with a focus on identifying groundwater pollution, assessing structural integrity, and addressing other geological hazards.
